Oman volleyball team set for GCC Games

MUSCAT: Oman volleyball team is gearing up to take part in the third GCC Games which will be held in Kuwait during May 20 to 26. The team, coached by the national experienced coach Jamal al Maamari, began an internal camp in Suhar on Wednesday which will continue during the holy month of Ramadhan.


The coaching staff of the national team focused in the initial days on the physical sides of the players after an absence of the training sessions since earlier this year. During the later warm-up sessions, coach Jamal trained the players to implement different technical and tactical moves. The local preparatory camp will be followed by an external camp after Eid break and ahead of travelling to Kuwait.



Last October, the Sultanate of Oman’s volleyball team had an external camp in UAE for the forthcoming assignments. During this camp, the team had played many friendly games against the UAE team. Later, the team travelled for another overseas camp to Tunisia and met different Tunisian teams. The series of local and external camps shaped the players readiness and assisted to raise up their technical skills.


Head coach Jamal al Maamari opted 15 players for the domestic camp in Suhar and the probables for the squad included: Hilal al Maqbali, Saud al Maamari, Mahmood al Saadi, Ismail al Hadi, Mohammed al Maqbali, Yousuf al Shukali, Falah al Jaradi, Ahmed al Toobi, Khalid al Maqbali, Younis al Amri, Khamis al Jabri, Abdullah al Maqbali, Adam al Jalboobi, Abdullah al Shibli and Majid al Shibli.


Oman will commence their campaign at the GCC Games in Kuwait with a match against Qatar in the opener on May 20. In the following game, they will take on the hosts Kuwait and then they will meet Bahrain on May 24. Later, they will face the UAE team and then conclude their group matches against Saudi Arabia on May 26.
