Muscat: Beach cleaning was organised simultaneously at five different beaches across four different cities in the Sultanate of Oman on Friday as part of Community Service Fortnight -- Sewa Utsav. The event evoked enthusiastic participation from Indian social club members, school students and others from the community.
In Muscat beaches in Athaiba and Shati al Qurum were cleaned with participation of more than 150 volunteers each at both the locations. The social clubs in Suhar, Sur and Salalah took up the task of cleaning Sallan beach, Ayjah hanging bridge and Dahariz beach respectively.
The beach cleaning activity was organised with the support of local municipal authorities and contributed to their efforts in enhancing the awareness and sensitivity towards cleanliness and environment protection. All the participants were sensitised on the importance of not littering in public places and protection of environment. All the participants pledged to continue to work together for environment and climate awareness and maintaining the pristine beauty of beaches in the Sultanate of Oman.
Ambassador Amit Narang commended the efforts of Indian community and thanked the Omani government for its support. “Both the countries play an important role in climate advocacy and protection of environment and this initiative has the potential to become a joint movement between citizens of India and Sultanate of Oman to raise consciousness for environment preservation,” he said. This was a collective initiative of Indian community to contribute to cleaner and greener Sultanate of Oman.
