Oman gear up for FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers

The Oman national senior basketball team is gearing up to take part at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualification which will be hosted by Qatar's Doha city from May 31 to June 5.


The training sessions of the team began on Monday at the indoor hall at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex under watchful eyes of the newly appointed head coach Zouhair Shareef Ayachi from Tunisia and in attendance of his assistant, national experienced coach Mahmood Ambo Ali.


The first internal preparatory camp under supervision of the new coaching staff will continue during Ramadhan month and will conclude on April 31. Another internal and external warm-up session will be followed ahead of 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualification.


As many as 19 players have been opted by the Tunisian head coach for the training session. The selections were based on the players performance during the Oman Basketball League championship and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth’s basketball shield championship. The head coach attended both top basketball domestic events and finalised the initial squad of the national team.


The warm-up training included various sessions which aimed to raise physical fitness levels besides implementation of different technical and tactical exercises. The Tunisian coach focused during the training sessions to instruct the players on passing the ball, triple shooting, shooting from under the basket, passing skills with the ball and other desired skills when starting and building any attacks and also the players trained for defending against the rival moves.


The probables for the national senior basketball team featured: Hamood al Souli, Said al Saadi, Amjad al Hadidi, AbdulRahman al Sinani, Bassam al Busaidi, Hadid Bait Bakhit, Said Ghassan, Rasheed al Zuhaibi, AbdulRahman al Shuaibi, Marwan al Hadidi, Nouh al Amri, Mowaia al Harthi, Hassan al Faraji, Abdu Rezza al Battashi, Adil al Battashi, Ahmed al Halhali, Saif al Toubi, Faisal al Jamoodi, Osama al Riyami.
