Oman to kick off Fifa Arab Cup with Iraq encounter

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will commence the campaign at the 2021 Fifa Arab Cup in Doha with a Gulf clash against Iraq on Tuesday for the first group matches.


The match will kick off at 5:00 pm (Oman time) in the World Cup venue at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah. In the same group, the hosts Qatar will meet Bahrain in Al Bayt Stadium and the match will start at 8:30 pm.


Two other fixtures will take place on Tuesday including Tunisia against Mauritania and the encounter between United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Syria.


‘Red Warriors’ will look for a good start in this crucial Arabian event. The victory will encourage the team to advance into quarterfinals. The head coach of the team, Branko Ivankovic, announced in mid-November the squad of the national team excluding Ali al Busaidy, Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Fayez al Rushaidi, Zaher al Aghbari and Mahmood Mabrook and the list featured ten players are from Seeb while three players from Al Nasr, Dhofar and Al Suwaiq.

Oman will eye in showing better performance after the team’s defeat in Muscat against Asian heavyweight Japan in the AFC Asian qualifiers-Road to Qatar. The Oman team arrived in Doha on Friday and had some technical and tactical sessions under the watchful eyes of the Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic.


On the other hand, Iraq will miss many top players in today’s fixture including Alaa Abdul-Zahra Ali Adnan and Ahmed Ibrahim.
