Backed by a strong history of securing the release of thousands of people who were inadvertently involved in minor financial offences, the Fak Khorba Initiative by the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA), has urged all to support this move so that many who are deprived of fasting with their families can dream of the same, according to the OLA.

"This initiative of Fak Khorba is a true reflection of the role of the society and its solidarity in promoting human values and every citizen and expatriate can take part in this," said Dr Mohammed al Zadjali, Chairman of Omani Lawyers Association and member of Majlis Ash'shura.

His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti, has hailed the move calling it a 'true humanitarian' initiative.

"Fak Kurbah is an Islamic humanitarian initiative that will fetch rewards to the donors in this world and the hereafter," His Eminence added.

His Eminence called every member of the society to participate in this initiative and contribute to relieving the hardships of those in need, as Allah Almighty will double their rewards in this world and the hereafter.

This year, the organisers have introduced an online platform to help the public donate to help the cases and to secure the release of people currently inside the jails.

One can log on to: http://fakkrba.om to make donations.

The initiative aims at collecting financial donations to release those who have been imprisoned due to financial, civil, commercial, or labour claims.

There are a number of criteria that must be met to be eligible for the help. This includes that the insolvent must be imprisoned or about to be imprisoned, as well as not being a previous beneficiary of the initiative, and the amount shall be related to a civil, commercial, Sharia or labour case, with a maximum of RO 2,000. Priority will be given to those who have less claims, bearing in mind that the selection of cases that meet the conditions is made by the Directorate General of Execution Affairs in the Administrative Affairs for the Judiciary Council. Requests shall not be directly addressed to the initiative, but through the above Directorate General.

"We are keen to develop the initiative and its tools," Dr Mohammed al Zadjali added.

Currently, in its 9th edition, the Fak Khorba initiative has, over the past years, helped nearly 4,000 insolvent persons who were imprisoned or were about to be imprisoned.

Nearly 100 male and female lawyers were part of this mega release campaign that had won second place in the Sultan Qaboos Voluntary Work Awards, as it aims to highlight the role of lawyers in volunteer work and activate their participation in social responsibility thanks to the community solidarity and humanity.

"Because we believe that everyone deserves a second chance", adds Dr Al Zadjali.
