Seeb's head coach, Boris Bunjak, hailed his team’s 2-0 win over the fighting Al Rustaq in the summit clash of the 2021/22 His Majesty’s Cup football championship as the result of the top show from the players during the thrilling game on Thursday night at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

“Thanks to all the players of my team for the top and excellent show. This title was one of the much awaited triumphs after 24 years from the last cup in 1998. I am very delighted that we managed to spread the joy among all the fans and audience in Seeb club,” said the 2021/22 HM Cup winning coach.

The Serbian coach added that his target when he came to Oman was to register a new accomplishment. “This is my seventh finals with Omani teams and the fifth registered cup as personal record. My goal whenever I lead any team is to record an achievement with them. I am very proud with the HM Cup title for Seeb club after many years,” the coach concluded.

Goals from striker Mohsin al Ghassani and defender Amjad al Harthi in the dying minutes sealed a thrilling win for the Muscat-based team and that allowed them to emerge the coveted Cup for the fourth time in history.

Golden Jubilee

His Highness Sayyid Malik bin Shihab al Said, Seeb club board member, commented post the match and said ”This victory is in line to the golden jubilee of the club. That means the achievement is twice. We hope the team shall continue at this top level and to win the league shield of Omantel League as well,” he added.

Sayyid Malik stated that this accomplishment belongs to everyone in the Wilayat of Seeb. “Everybody here were waiting for this cup since a very long time. I am sure everyone is proud with this great milestone achieved for the club this season. Seeb is a historic club in the Sultanate of Oman and they deserved this top achievement. The winning of this title is part of the proper planning from the club and its board of directors. Our focus currently is on the league shield and hope the team can do it,” he ended.

Seeb’s last three titles in the prestigious cup were in 1996,1997 and 1998. Thursday night’s triumph marked a resumption of the team to the circle of the victories after an absence of 24 years.

Scoring chances

Ali al Busaidi, Seeb’s player, stated post the match that team players promised the board of directors of the club to win HM Cup since last season but that could not happen. “We are very happy to accomplish our promise this season and dedicated this coveted trophy to all the people and fans in the club. Missing the scoring attempts could happen inside the green field. The opponent missed one real scoring chance but we managed at the end to convert two attempts into goals,” he added.

The national football team concluded his statement that the players are experienced and managed to adapt with the fans pressure.

“Most of the club’s players are experienced and they are capable to adapt with such kind of pressure. The huge attendance of the audience represented as strong supporting factor for players and special thanks to all of our valuable fans,” he ended
