Iranian Shahrbabaki named as head coach of National table tennis team

The Iranian Omid Shams Shahrbabaki was named as the head coach of the national table tennis team. Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) announced on Monday the appointment of the former Iranian table tennis coach.


The signing agreement took place recently at the meeting room in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in presence of Abdullah Bamakhalif, chairman of OTTA, who signed on behalf of the association in presence of the board members. The date of the signing ceremony was inline to Youth International Day which falls on October 30 every year.


The Iranian coach replaced the Jordanian coach Mohammed Atoum, who was in charge for the national team since 2015 until 2021 and now he moved to ITTF.


The 46-year-old had served as the coach of Iranian national team during 2015 to 2018. Also, he was the head coach of Iran national table tennis hopes and youth team from 2014 until 2020. He has a wide range of experience in coaching junior age categories. He was with the Iran team at the World Cadet Challenge in 2017 and 2018.

Coach Shahrbabaki is father and coach of two young players of the Iranian national team named Hamid and Navid Shams.


The young player Hamid is the bronze medalist of the 2018 Myanmar Youth Asian Games while Navid is the champion of the two World Hopes of 2016 Qatar and 2017 Luxembourg.


He has several international titles in the world tournaments including: Slovakia Tour Champion, Jordan World Tour Champion, Gold Medal 2018 Hong Kong, World Tour, holder of two gold medals from the 2019 World Cadet Challenge in team and doubles competitions in Poland and holder of many medals at numerous other international.


FUTURE PLANS


Commenting post the signing ceremony, the Iranian coach Omid Shams Shahrbabaki said that he has different technical initiatives and approaches to develop Oman table tennis teams.


“I see a very bright future for table tennis in Sultanate of Oman due to having active association members and potential manpower that is interested in the development programmes and progress. Beside that OTTA have good cooperation with the Asian and global community and holding several high-level competitions in all age groups in this country which will greatly increase my hope. Moreover, the strong presence of the OTTA chairman and vice chairman in the regional and international federations will power forums of this federation increase the overall growth of zinc tennis The table in Sultanate of Oman is very fast and attractive, I wish the best for the sports family, especially table tennis in Sultanate of Oman, with respect to the head coach of the Oman national teams,” he added.


“I have considered complete programmes for the correct and up-to-date training of players and coaches with the latest ITTF sciences. Also, focusing on the basic tasks for the beginners and medium age group paddlers and adults. Having proper training camps at regular intervals that I hope will be done with the cooperation of the federation and players and other coaches. This will assist us more to have continuous development for the players,” he ended.


OTTA REVIEW CVs


OTTA chairman Abdullah Bamakhalif, said that the coaching committee reviewed bundles of CVs and resumes during the last few months.


“We have been keen to select the right qualified coach to lead the national table tennis teams. The appointment of the Iranian coach Omid Shams Shahrbabaki was based on the top experience for the coach in coaching the junior, youth and other categories. We will provide the suitable environment for the coach to deliver his best for development of the national teams,” he concluded.
