Two British citizens formerly detained in Iran arrive in Oman

Muscat: In implementation of the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to maintain endeavours with all countries and, following His Majesty the Sultan’s blessing to honour a request from the Government of the United Kingdom (UK), competent authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, in cooperation and coordination with the Sultanate of Oman and the UK, has released two British citizens who were taken in custody in Iran.


Both persons - Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori - arrived in Muscat on Wednesday on board a flight operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman in preparation for their repatriation to the UK.


In a tweet, Said Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, said "Nazanin and Anoosheh have arrived safely in Oman. Sincere thanks for the hard work and good faith in Tehran and London that made this possible. Soon they will be with their loved ones at home. We hope this result will bring further progress in the dialogue between the parties."
