OSA set for Oman Open Water Swimming in Dibba

Muscat: The Oman Swimming Association (OSA) is gearing up to organise the 14th edition of Oman Open Water Swimming Championship in the Wilayat of Dibba in Musandam Governorate on Saturday. As many as 100 swimmers representing 15 clubs will take part in the top domestic swimming event.


All the swimmers and teams will compete to clinch the top awards and win the cash prizes of RO 5,000.


The championship will feature different categories including senior and youth. The Oman Open Water Swimming Championship is back after an absence of two years as the last edition was held in March in 2019 at Sur beach. Ahli Sidab were champions of the last edition while Bausher Club finished runners-up and Oman Club ended in third place. The last championship had registered participation of more than 125 swimmers representing 14 clubs.


The final ceremony of the championship will be held on the same day after conclusion of all the competitions. The chief guest will be Dr Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in presence of top dignitaries and officials.


Taha bin Suleiman al Kishry, Chairman of OSA, expressed his satisfaction in the number of the swimmers and clubs which will take part in the of Oman Open Water Swimming Championship. “We are glad with the registration of teams and swimmers who will compete in this top swimming event. We have been very keen to select the Wilayat of Dibba in Musandam Governorate as the host venue for this prestigious championship. This is inline to the government instructions to activate the local events and tournaments in Musandam area,” he added.


The chief of OSA said that this championship is a good opportunity to promote more about Musandam Governorate in terms of tourism. “The resumption of Oman Open Water Swimming Championship is the actual start for OSA to host further events and tournaments. The championship was suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic ” he ended.
