MUSCAT, MARCH 15

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology signed on Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman International Container Terminal Company (Hutchison Ports Sohar) to manage, develop and operate the Port of Khasab in Musandam Governorate.

The MoU was signed by Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Anacin Kum, CEO of Oman International Container Terminal.

Eng Al Maawali said that the MoU will pave the way for the upgrade of the port for the benefit of the local community, while safeguarding the distinctive identity of Khasab. A workshop will be held in May to discuss ways of developing the port with the stakeholders concerned, he stated.

Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Musandam, said that the MoU will strengthen logistics in the Governorate of Musandam, in turn contributing to growth in the region. It will also open up the port to new investment opportunities for various players, he noted.

Also present at the signing was Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamaki, Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport. - ONA
