Transport ministry signs MoU for operating, developing Khasab Port

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman International Container Terminal Company (Hutchison Ports Sohar) to manage, develop and operate the Port of Khasab.


The MoU was signed by Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Anacin Kum, CEO of Oman International Container Terminal.


Eng Al Maawali said that signing the MoU will serve the local community by developing the port, while at the same time preserving the identity of the place.


He pointed out that a workshop will be held next May to discuss ways of developing the port with the authorities concerned.


On his turn, Sayyid Ibrahim Said al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Musandam said that the MoU is an important step in developing the logistics sector in the Governorate of Musandam, which will develop the economic sector in the governorate.


He explained that developing facilities of the port would augment investment opportunities for various institutions.


The signing ceremony was attended by Eng Khamis Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Transport.
