OCRF to hold 'Sword Race 2022' on Sunday

MUSCAT: The Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) will organise 'Association Sword Race' which will be the initial race for 2022 season under the new title on Sunday.


The four days event -- which will conclude on Wednesday -- will feature more than 57 rounds that represent different categories including Hagayag, Lagaya, Thanaya, Al Hool and Al Eidaa. A variety of prizes are arranged from the organising committee for the top winners including SUV vehicles and cash awards besides the golden Sword Race which will be delivered in the closing ceremony under patronage of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.


The top camel race event -- organised by Oman Camel Racing Federation under supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth -- will take place at the Royal Cavalry Track in Al Fulaij in the Wilayat of Barka. The event will be sponsored by different companies including Oman Occidental, Al Sharqiya Aviation and many others as part of private sector’s support towards camel racing sport.


The concluding ceremony on Wednesday will feature camel shows and other technical sides of the camel corps.


Shaikh Said bin Saud al Ghafili, Chairman of Oman Camel Racing Federation, said that the 2022 golden Sword Race is honoured with the direct support and interest of HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, who pays special attention to this sport and the same is at the GCC countries.


“We have finalised all the preparations to host and organise this top event and looking forward to receive the domestic and regional camel owners. Camel races in the Sultanate of Oman and GCC countries receive the appropriate care with a special passion as it is ranked as one of the most important civilisational and cultural legacies that have historically been linked to the lives of the people of the gulf,” the chief of Oman Camel Racing Federation concluded.
