Preparations in full swing for HM Cup

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has started its preparations for the final of the 50th edition of His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup for 2021/22 season, which will be held under the patronage of Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher.


Al Rustaq Club was the first team to reach the final match after its 2-0 second leg victory over Dhofar Club that ensured a 3-2 aggregate victory. It is the first time that Al Rustaq has reached the HM Cup final, while Al Seeb Club completed the final line-up beating Al Nasr 1-0 in the second leg match after the first leg semifinal had ended in a goalless draw.


Basil bin Ahmed bin Amir al Rowas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, wished both the clubs the best for the final.


“At the outset, I congratulate the Al Seeb and Al Rustaq clubs on their wonderful achievement and qualifying for the final match of His Majesty the Sultan’s Cup in its fiftieth edition of the 2021/22 football season.


It is no secret to everyone that the competition since its lunch until now has made a qualitative leap and a great addition to the level of the game in the Sultanate of Oman,’’ he added.


Hisham bin Jumaa al Sinani, Director General of Sports Welfare and Development, chairman of the Committee supervising the final match, explained that the committee had held prior meetings with the stakeholders from the Omani Football Association and the concerned authorities to discuss the administrative and organisational preparations necessary to hold the final cup in order to exit the match in a manner befitting it.


“The committee will complete its meetings and preparations for the final match to finish all procedures related to it, adding: that precautionary measures will be applied for Corona pandemic,’’ Al Sinani explained.


On the other hand, the Referees Committee of the Football Association will hold an important meeting today, headed by Khaled al Hinai, Chairman of the Committee, to discuss the arrangements for the final match of the Cup competition on March 17. An intensive course will be held for the five referees who will be selected before the match.
