345 players take part in Shotokan Karate International contest

MUSCAT: The seventh Shotokan Karate Centre International competition concluded at the Al Amal Sports Club hall in Ghala on March 4.


Chief guest Shaikh Mohammed bin Humaid al Ghabshi, Wali of Al Amerat, handed over the trophies to the sports clubs that ranked first in the general standings.


Also present were Brigadier Abdulmalik bin Ghassan al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Oman Taekwondo Committee and member of the Omani Karate Committee Hamoud bin Salim al Touqi.


Ali al Raisi Karate Club came first, Champions Karate Club claimed second spot, the Shotokan Karate Centre finished third and Al Qudra Karate Club came fourth in the overall category.


The international event was organised by the Shotokan Karate Centre with participation of 345 male and female players representing 24 clubs, centres and a private academy from 7 countries.


The Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Sudan and Iran took part in the event.


The competition was administered by a team of international, continental and national Referees.


The competition programme in the kata and kumite competitions was divided into several age groups, starting with the men’s category (over 30 years old) and then (under 30 years old), then the competitions of other groups for males and females followed.


The competition witnessed strong competition and an exchange of experiences between the national competitors and the players of the participating sports clubs from the rest of the countries, which gave the championship the advantage of the emergence of advanced levels among the players in the fields of kata and kumite for individual and team.


During the concluding ceremony, the chief guest honoured the referees’ staff, representatives of sports clubs, academies and private centres participating in the competition, members of the organising committees, the scouting team and the medical staff by handing them commemorative shields.


After that, members of the Shotokan Karate Centre, Sensei Navaz Mukeri, Sensei Yousuf al Siyabi, Sensei Hilal al Abdali, presented a commemorative shield to Shaikh Mohammed al Ghabshi as well as another commemorative shields to Brigadier Abdulmalik bin Ghassan al Mazrouei and Hamoud bin Salim al Touqi.
