How well do you know about intellectual property rights (IPR)? Who is it applicable for?

The Omani Society for Intellectual Property is armed with these questions while asking visitors to do a survey at the 26th Muscat International Book Fair. The Society has its pavilion where it encourages the visitors to find out more about the IPR.

The Society's objective is to work in the field of IPR to raise awareness about the fundamental importance of protecting intellectual property and work towards the implementation of protecting IP.

Muhanna al Zuheimi from the Society said the OSIP also supports and encourages talents, promote scientific research on IP, create a network of national scientific competencies in the area and share experience and knowledge on IP issues in various fields.

OSIP also has a solid social media presence and invites the public to understand how their scientific research, creative ideas, thoughts and words can be protected.

About the exhibition, he said many publishers are available this year, and because of the event being well organised as per the Covid-19 protocol, the public is keen to come.

"We have seen good turnout. This survey is important because it will not only create awareness but give us an idea on the current status when it comes to knowledge on intellectual property issues," he said.

"Intellectual property is the rights given to an individual for the creation of their minds. We at the Society are trying to create a network of scientific competence in the area of intellectual property rights as well as supporting and promoting intellectual property talents. Do we have a survey here at our pavillion, and this is to calculate and get a good picture of the awareness level amongst awareness. We are also inviting scientists and experts on various subjects, researchers, writers and innovators to join the Association as members. All they require is to fill one page application," he pointed out.
