MUSCAT: Salim bin Ali al Hakmani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), visited Al Wusta Governorate to review efforts undertaken by the Authority in monitoring the markets and ensuring the suppliers’ commitment to the consumer protection laws and regulations.

The CPA chairman toured a number of markets in the governorate to check traders’ abidance by the law and ensure they are not exploiting the conditions to hike commodity prices.

He stressed the importance of cooperation on the part of suppliers and their commitment to laws and legislation that contribute to the stability of markets stemming from the CPA’s keenness to provide commodities that are safe for consumers.

During the visit, the CPA chairman met with administrators and inspectors and closely examined the workflow mechanism. He praised the efforts aimed at monitoring the markets and intensifying inspection, urging CPA officials to intensify efforts to serve consumers and speed up the provision of all services rendered to consumers, emphasising the importance of consumers’ awareness in enabling the CPA to accomplish its tasks effectively.

The CPA chairman’s visit coincides with the ‘stick to the original’ campaign which aims at stemming commercial fraud in all governorates. The campaign follows the issuance of the GCC Anti Commercial-Fraud Law which aims at strengthening the legal system to protect the markets from harmful practices and provide more protection for consumers.
