An Omani firm has initiated the first park for caravans in the south Indian state of Kerala, a place which has an increasing number of ‘homes on wheels’ owned by High Networth Individuals (HNIs).
Located in the scenic tourism spot in Vagamon in the hilly district of Idukki, the first of such tourism projects in the post-Covid-19 era for Kerala tourism aims, in return, to market Oman tourism in the state.
Speaking to the Observer, Aadil Alexander (pictured), Managing Director of Adrak Constructions in Oman which owns Karavan Meadows, developed by Adrak Hotels and Resorts and managed by Citrine Hospitality Ventures, said that the project was set up to support bilateral tourism between the Sultanate of Oman and India.
“The Caravan Park is the first of its kind in the state at a time when individually-owned as well as hired caravans are having great demand and bilateral tourism can be supported by marketing Oman’s tourist spots to the guests to the Park as well as sending Omani tourists to India,” he noted.
The Caravan Park features a restaurant with grilling facilities, private rest-house, housekeeping, round-the-clock individual service and campfire, among others and can accommodate two caravans at the moment.
Caravan tourism is set to redefine the state’s travel industry as an innovative product after houseboats. The concept of caravan tourism began gaining shape last year as a remedy to the prolonged crisis in the tourism sector caused by the pandemic.
Plans are afoot to set up 120 caravan parks and as many as 353 entrepreneurs have registered for running caravans in the state.
“We have plans to make further investments in this sector and expand the facilities to accommodate eight caravans in the near future,” Aadil said.
