Muscat: The semifinal leg draws of the His Majesty’s football Cup championship was announced with crucial fixtures. Defending champion Dhofar will take on Al Rustaq in a tight clash while five times winner, Al Nasr, will face heavyweights, Seeb, in a key semifinal encounter.

The first leg match of the semifinals between Dhofar and Al Rustaq will be held first at Al Saada Sports Complex on February 20 while in the following day, Al Nasr will host Seeb at the same venue.

Both matches will kick on 5:45 pm. The second leg matches will take place on March 2 as Al Rustaq will host Dhofar at Al Rustaq Sports Complex while Seeb will face Al Nasr at Seeb Stadium on March 3.

The Oman Football Association (OFA) held a draw ceremony of the semifinal round on Sunday at its headquarters located in Seeb Stadium.

The former national football team and top scorers, Hani al Thabit, and Emad al Hosni attended the draw function in presence of OFA officials and representatives of the qualified teams.

Shaikh Thabit al Yafei, vice chairman of Al Nasr club said for the media post the draw that the match against Seeb will be an easy game. “The team is in good condition and full readiness to overcome Seeb and move to the final. We are ready for the clash and awaiting the opponent in the field. I am expecting Al Nasr and Dhofar will advance to the final match of the coveted cup and both teams will be in Salalah,” he ended.

Seeb and Al Nasr will rekindle the memories of the 2005/2006 season as both teams met in the concluding match. Al Nasr had lifted the title after defeating Seeb 3-1 in the final match which played at the Sohar Sports Complex.

On 15th January at Omantel League, Seeb registered a 2-0 win over Al Nasr in the eleventh week of the league. However, the assignment in HM Cup will be different than the previous matches and both teams will eye the triumph only.

On the other side, record-chasing Dhofar’s assignment will not be easy as they will face fighting Al Rustaq who will be targeting the first presence in the final of the prestigious cup.

Rasheed Jaber’s men will work hard in the forthcoming days to gear up properly for the match. The opponent Al Rustaq will not miss the opportunity as they inch closer to the historic title by two steps.
