ADAM: The fifth edition of the annual Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival will be held at Al Bashayer Racetrack in the Wilayat of Adam from February 28 to March 5 with a wide participation of camel owners from the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC countries.
HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, said: “We will be marking five years since the launch of the annual Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing Festival in its new shape designed as part of development and modernisation plan of Al Bashayer Racetrack. The annual event is the culmination of the vision of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may Allah the Almighty rest his soul in peace, in preserving the Omani heritage, and the wise directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, to harness all potentials to encourage Omani youth to preserve their values and traditions.”
HH Sayyid Asaad added: “This festival has become one of the most important sporting, cultural, social and tourism events in the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf region due to the sublime values it offers and the great meanings that are manifested in the spirit of love and brotherhood among camel owners and enthusiasts. The event represents a comprehensive sports forum distinguished by high competition and unique sportsmanship between the participants.”
HH Sayyid Asaad affirmed that the fifth edition of the festival has realised the visions we have sought during the past years in transforming the event into an icon to be followed at the level of the executive and organisational work plans in terms of technical and media aspects and drawing up a strategic partnership with various governmental, private and civil sectors.
HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, said: “In our relentless pursuit to develop camel racing and to provide a more attractive environment for Omani competencies working in this vital and important sector, the Directorate-General of Camel and Equestrians will be opened in Al Bashayer in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is expected to contribute to the geographical development in Al Bashayer.”
“This comes as a continuation of the integrated project that began with the establishment of the racetrack and its various facilities, thus transforming Al Bashayer into an important strategic centre for the economic and social development of the sector with continuous activity throughout the season.”
HH Sayyid Asaad added: “We will soon start the construction of the equestrian track for which His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has agreed to allocate a land plot. The project will receive our personal attention and we hope that it will see the light soon. With all this tangible attention of the wise leadership, the achievements of Omani camels continue. We are delighted to congratulate His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the lovers of camel racing for what the Al Bashayer Camel Foundation has achieved by winning the king’s sword at King Abdulaziz Camel Festival, 2022 in Saudi Arabia. — ONA
