Ever felt sorry for a girl who has lost her hair due to chemo sessions during her battle with cancer and wished if one could share hair with the girl?

There is good news! A group of women is collecting hair from those who want to donate hair to support such girls globally and bring smile on their faces.

‘Khosl’, a voluntary group of women from various wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman, is working on the project by exhorting donors to contact and make a difference in someone’s life. The collected stuff would go to different countries.

“We started this initiative after seeing many girls after witnessing the sufferings of girls who undergo the chemo process,” says Widyan al Shibli, the point of contact at Khosl.

It all began to happen when Al Shibli got a large portion of her hair cut but felt it was wrong on her part to throw the same while many are dreaming of a wig after they lost hair due to some reason.

“I began to search for any organisation to donate the hair but couldn’t find any. However, after long search, I was able to get some NGOs abroad that collected hair from individuals and made wigs for the deserving girls, with the state support,” Widyan said.

She got in touch with some women who thought alike and it was in 2018 that they began to help the girls by sending collected hair with a view to bringing a smile on their faces.

“Besides helping individuals to donate their hair, we are also coordinating with organisations that make wigs for people battling cancer around the world,” adds Widyan.

One can reach out to the group and give time to get the hair collected. The Khosl volunteers would come and collect.

“We have both Omani and expat women volunteers on collection teams in different wilayats. They collect, pack and deliver to the US where the state-supported initiative collects and distributes wigs suitable for each girl’s head,” adds Widyan.

People from all walks of life, salons and other NGOs are supporting Khosl initiative and some beauty parlours and salons support the group by reducing the fee for haircuts, in order to encourage more women to donate.
