Nearly 35,000 people use Saudi-Oman road

Muscat: Abdullah bin Saud Al-Enezi, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Sultanate of Oman, has said that around 35,000 people have traveled through the Empty Quarter road that links the two country since its opening in December.


He told a local Saudi channel and added that people of both sides are keen to strengthen relations between the two countries.


The Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has said that the Empty Quarter road is a point of social contact for the people of two countries, apart from its importance as a key logistics route.


This road has reduced the distance to comute between the two countries by 10 hours following a reduction in the number of border points, which will also boost tourism. .


The ministry is studying the need for a dual carriage from the check point to the Wilayat of Ibri as per the traffic density. Later, the road dualisaiton will project will be carried out between Ibri and Suhar to enable movement of of goods.
