Crucial games at Asia Cup hockey today

Muscat: Four crucial fixtures on Monday will define the qualified teams for the semifinal of 2022 Women’s Asia Cup which is underway in Muscat at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


In the first game, China will meet Indonesia and the match will kick off at 13:00. In the following match, the topper Korea will take on Thailand and the game will begin at 15:00.


Asian heavyweight, Japan, will clash with Malaysia in the third match and the game will kick off at 17:00.


The last game of the day will be between the title holders India and Singapore and the match will start at 19:00.


Chinese women will chase for the second spot as they possess three points only from one victory against Thailand in the opening game while they suffered a 4-0 loss against Korea.


Indonesian team players have been defeated in the first two matches by Korea and Thailand. They are entering this tournament to gain experience for the forthcoming events.


Thailand will fight for the second spot as they will face Korea. They have three points from one triumph against Indonesia while they suffered a loss against China in the opener. Korean women secured their spot for the semis after they registered two victories against China and Indonesia.


In loop A, defending champion India will aim for another victory against Singapore to advance to the semifinals and defend the title. Japan will meet Malaysia.


The semifinal round games will take place on Wednesday and the first match will begin at 16:30. The 5th to 8th place matches will be held in the same day and will start from 11:30 am.


Training program


The training program of preparation for ladies in hockey took place on Sunday as apart of the Asian event.


As many as 25 participants attended the program which will last for six days. The official opening of the training function was held in presence of Dr Marwan al Juma, the Oman Hockey Association (OHA) chairman and the other officials.


The first day of the training featured three workshops including brief introduction on hockey.


Then, the ladies learners learned about the hockey related equipment and the mechanism of holding the hockey stick. The third workshop was for the practical side on some tactical ways in hockey.


The national coaches Ahmed al Darmaki, Mohammed al Darmaki and Khamis al Balushi delivered the workshops. The participants attended the analysis session for some top Asian games in the event.
