Covid in-patients surge as 232 cases reported

The number of Covid cases in the new wave hit another landmark as the Ministry of Health ( MoH ) on Tuesday reported 232 new cases and zero deaths in the last 24 hours.


The campaign to administer booster vaccines at the Old Airport building, stopped on Tuesday due to rains, will resume on Wednesday.


The total number of in-patients went up to 15, including five in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).


With the total death toll rising to 4,117, the recovery rate has now dropped to 98.1 per cent.


Meanwhile, health experts around the world, including in the Sultanate of Oman, have affirmed that current vaccines will protect against, hospitalisations, and deaths due to the Omicron variant.


Vaccines have remained effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalisations, and death.


As the recent emergence of Omicron further emphasises the importance of vaccination and boosters, which is now being administered to both residents and citizens across the country.


Authorities have confirmed the requirements for entering the country through land borders, which include receiving at least two doses of an approved vaccine for those aged 18 years and above - for residents or non-Omanis.


The requirement includes presenting a negative certificate of PCR tests upon arrival, provided that the examination was conducted within a period not exceeding 72 hours prior to arrival.


Meanwhile, citizens of the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates will have to present a certificate of receiving two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.


It also includes the PCR negative result, with a period not exceeding 14 days between the date of taking the test sample and arriving in the Sultanate of Oman.
