NIZWA: How about swinging on an arch of rocks high up in the mountains? Come to Tanuf in the Wilayat of Nizwa for this adrenaline-pumping adventure sport like paragliding.

The idea of the swing started when Ahmed al Abri put landing ropes suspended from the Tanuf arch at a height of almost 700 meters.

"The arch is natural. We call it Tanuf arch because it is like a window. For years we have seen this hanging rock. About 3 years ago we decided to abseil from this arch by rope. When we posted pictures of this on social media, people were awestruck. More people began to visit this area."

The ropes used for this experiment are not ordinary, said adventure enthusiast Mahmood bin Nasser al Fahdi. These are strong ropes used for climbing, which are approved globally and subjected to safety guidelines. All safety precautions were undertaken to ensure the safety of climbers.

It takes about 30 minutes to climb over the arch and start swinging. Swinging on this hanging arch is a unique experience. It is a natural swing, except for the ropes they installed. Al Fahdi described the experience of swinging over the edge from this height, which he experienced several times, saying that it is a very beautiful feeling, similar to paragliding.

He pointed out that he had previously tried similar models of suspended natural swings in other countries, but they cannot match the pleasure of Tanuf arch.

Al Fahdi said friction of rocks was among the major challenges they faced during the installation of the ropes for the swing.

They used clothes for smooth climbing.

When the swings were installed, people's reaction was mixed. While some supported the team, others voiced opposition on the risks of accidents.
