Twenty cyclists from Al Dahirah Cycling Team cycled for 150 kilometres on Friday, December 10, 2021, from the centre of Ibri to the Omani-Saudi border to celebrate the opening of the new road. This event took place a few days after the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to the Sultanate of Oman. This road makes travelling between the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia easier and faster and is expected to enhance tourism and trade.

Officials at the Omani border welcomed the cyclists after their arrival and expressed their gratitude for such an initiative. On the other hand, officials at the Saudi border welcomed the cyclists with enthusiasm and eagerness and were delighted to see the Omani cyclists carrying both Omani and Saudi flags. After being photographed with the Saudi officials, the cyclists returned to the Sultanate of Oman border, where transportation was arranged to take them back.

Abdulsalam al Manthari, Head of Al Dahirah Cycling Team, stated that “One of our main aims in this event is to showcase solidarity between the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia. The Omanis are happy to see that travelling between the two countries is now faster and easier. We are proud that we are the first group of cyclists to cross the border.”

Hamed al Ghafri, a cyclist who took part in the event said, “It took us seven hours to reach the border, but this was one of the best experiences we have ever had.”

Nasser al Sarkhi added, “The scenery along the road is amazing and we succeeded in the challenge of cycling non-stop 150 kilometres.

This event was sponsored by Al Anan construction, a leading construction company in Ibri.
