Saudi Arabia detects first 'Omicron' case

Muscat: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has detected a case of Omicron variant in a citizen coming from a North African country, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.


The infected citizen and his contacts were isolated, and the approved health procedures were completed. An epidemiological investigation was conducted, the agency said. said.


The Ministry of Health urged all members of society to receive vaccine doses and follow precautionary measures and the approved #Covid19 protocols.


Saudi Arabia has halted flights from and to Malawi, Zambia, Madagascar, Angola, Seychelles, Mauritius, and the Comoros Islands on Sunday owing to concerns related to the spread of the new COVID-19 strain.


It has also suspended flights to and from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Eswatini.


Ban on direct travel from India, Egypt, Pakistan lifted


Saudi Arabia’s ban on direct travel from several countries ended on Wednesday, as the country continues to relax pandemic-related travel restrictions.


Travelers from six countries — India, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, and Vietnam — can now arrive in the Kingdom without having to spend 14 days outside those countries before entering Saudi Arabia.


The travelers will need a valid PCR test certificate and must register on the Qdoom platform 72 hours before their flight departs.
