

PARIS: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, Chairperson of Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, presented the UNESCO-Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation, on Wednesday.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik affirmed that preservation and protection of the environment and its various natural resources are among the priorities of the development plans of the Sultanate of Oman. This is based on the firm conviction that caring for the environment and its capabilities is a global responsibility that is not bounded by the political borders of countries.
This came in His Majesty’s speech in the special booklet on the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of the UNESCO-Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation.
The prize presentation ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, being held in Paris, France.
The presentation of the 16th UNESCO-Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation, comes within the framework of the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations on the passage of 32 years since the launch of the prize which was announced in 1989 with the aim of honouring outstanding contributions of individuals, institutes and organizations working in the fields of environmental researches, education and training. — ONA
