OTTA board discusses appointing new head coach

MUSCAT: The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) board of directors discussed several topics in the second board meeting for this year. The meeting which was held remotely on Tuesday night chaired by Abdullah bin Mohammed Ba mukhalef, OTTA Chairman, in presence of all the board members, discussed appointing a new head coach for the national team.


Revision of the yearly agenda and resumption of the activities and competitions was another item in the board meeting’s agenda. Board members approved the participation of the top three clubs at the Sultanate TT championship for the Arab Table Tennis championship which will take place in Jordan in next August.


The OTTA agreed on nomination of Omani umpires who owned white badge at the Asian TT Championship which will be held in Qatar next September.


After approving minutes of the meeting for the previous meeting, board directors discussed the resumption of the domestic competitions and activities. The head of competition panel was assigned to prepare a detailed proposal of the remaining activities of the existing year.


The board also recommended for a feasibility study of starting the local events from August after approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the related government entities.

ATOUM MOVES TO ITTF


Regarding the appointment of the new national head coach, the in-charge sub-panel presented many resumes of different experienced coaches from different countries.


The board recommended to focus on certain criteria for the selection of the coach.


The coach should have good experience in the region in addition to experience in coaching junior and senior categories with more focus on hopes and cadet categories.


Jordan’s Mohammed Atoum, former Sultanate TT coach, had moved to International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) after a successful of seven years in Oman. He managed to accomplish different achievement during his technical supervision on the national team including Oman’s team attendance in the podium at West Asian Table Tennis Championship and Arab TT championship.
