Muscat: A number of wilayats in the north of the Sultanate of Oman witnessed rains of varying amounts as formations of cumulus clouds poured in over the Governorate of Musandam and the coast of the Sea of Oman since early morning on Wednesday.

Rains were reported in the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat and South Al Sharqiyah.

The Directorate-General of Meteorology, forecasts that rains will continue on Thursday and cloudy conditions prevail over the coastline of Musandam and the wilayats overlooking the Sea of Oman.

“The expanding of shortwave from the trough which is far away from the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the presence of cold air over warm sea creates conditions for isolated rains over parts of coastal areas of Oman Sea. All these parameters created ideal condition for rains,” said the weather forecaster at the Met Office, Civil Aviation Authority.

The general weather forecast stated clear to partly cloudy skies over Musandam Governorate and the coastal areas of Oman Sea with chances of isolated rain and mainly clear skies over most of the country with chances of cloud development and isolated rain with occasional thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas.
