A two-year training programme by MB training Institute (MBti) has succeeded in qualifying its trainees for four different types of careers in the oil and gas sector.
MBti, which is part of the Mohammed Al Barwani Group of Companies, recently graduated a batch of 10 Omani trainees under the Assistant Driller Training Programme for its client Gulf Drilling.
Upon completion of the two-year programme that focused on preparing the candidates to be future leaders of Gulf Drilling, some trainees were hired as assistant drillers.
However, MBti’s training also qualified some of the graduate to work as company men at hoists, others as performance engineers, assistant drilling engineers at rig sites for Gulf Drilling and on behalf of clients, and some as Business Development Contract Engineers.
Hamdoon Al jabri, Training Manager at MBti, said: “Our training programmes are all centered around providing the trainees with the expertise needed to operate in the field. Bringing this comprehensive training to them means that trainees become multi-talented and can operate at different positions.”
Salim Al Harthy, CEO of MBPS, which Gulf Drilling is a part of, added, “I was highly impressed by the graduates’ capabilities. We at Gulf Drilling were able to take on our need of Assistant Drillers, but also fill other needed positions. In our type of industry, we are always looking for people who are flexible and can manage more than one role.”
Ahmed Al Riyami, one of the trainees who is now working as a Business Development Contract Engineer, said: “We started the program in 2019, with both theoretical and practical components. We would spend two weeks in the field and 1 week in the classroom. The theory prepared us for the practical component, which then gave us the experience we need. I’m proud that the experience prepared me to be a Junior Business Development Contract Engineer.”
With the trainees happy in their new positions at Gulf Drilling, MBti is looking forward to accepting more trainees and provide them with multi-faceted skills for the workforce.
Hamdoon Al Jabri added: “We are happy to congratulate the trainees on their hard work and the positions they earned, and welcome companies to bring their fresh trainees to MBti for specialised training.”
