The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) announced on Wednesday the formal handover of the multi-purpose fishing port in Duqm to a consortium of Oman Fisheries Development Company (FDO) and Oman Food Investment Company (both subsidiaries of Oman Investment Authority) and the French port of Lorient.

Eng Yahya bin Khamis al Zadjali, In-Charge of Managing Operations at SEZAD, said the handover follows the completion of the construction works of the port. All superstructure works as well as the operation of the fishing port will be in the hands of the consortium, he noted.

“The multi-purpose Fishing Port has high potential to serve a number of sectors, including fisheries, fruits and vegetables, livestock, and tourism. The Port brings additional yards that can be used for tourism purposes and containers handling food activities, and it can attract the wooden ships supplying foodstuff. Further, the Port is characterised by its ability to host commercial fishing activities,” Al Zadjali stressed in a press statement.

Duqm fisheries port is the largest in the Sultanate with a depth of 10 metres, two breakwaters that are 3.3 km long, a 1.3-km fixed berth, and 6 other floating berths. In addition, there is land designated for tourism purposes associated with the port, which is connected with the Fisheries Industries Zone and other projects in Duqm SEZ via a road network.
