The Ministry of Health confirmed on Saturday its readiness to deal with any emergency situation that may rise from the tropical cyclone Shaheen.

In a statement, the ministry said it had activated the national health emergency plan for medical response and public health at central and governorates to deal with the situation.

“All health institutions are ready with enough manpower, medical equipment and medicines. All the necessary services are ready,” it said.

Also, the call centre of the ministry was activated and a shift schedule was prepared for administrators in the emergency plan and for doctors and health workers in health institutions.

Governorates close to the places expected to be affected by the cyclone are stocked with medicines, medical supplies and enough workforce.

Besides, central stores are ready to send additional shipments of medicines and other medical equipment to all directorates, hospitals and health centres.

Meanwhile, the Muscat Municipality has announced the activation of its 24-hour call centre to provide the latest tropical updates through notifications.

“As part of its efforts to provide necessary assistance to the general public with regard to Shaheen, information about the tropical storm can be obtained from additional Muscat Call Centre 1111, which will be operational round the clock,” the municipality said in a statement.

The municipality cautioned people living in the low lying areas and near wadis as they are likely to be flooded due to rains resulting from the tropical storm.

“The municipality has taken all necessary measures to deal with the situation,” the statement said.

The met office confirmed the warnings issued by the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre against the multiple dangers of not going to the sea and staying away from the low-lying areas adjacent to the coasts.
