MUSCAT, Sept 11
The executive committee of Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) elected Shaikh Salim Said al Wahaibi, Chairman of OFA, for vice-chairman post of AGCFF. The decision was taken during the AGCFF meeting on Monday remotely. The meeting was attended by the OFA chairman and OFA Executive Director Fahad al Raisi, in presence of the Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani, President of AGCFF, and the members.
The AGCFF executive committee approved postponement of the 25th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Basra city to January 2023. Also, AGCFF executive confirmed extension of the federation's executive term until May 2023.
The postponement decision of Gulf Cup came due to busy calendar of the Gulf national teams in different regional and continental participations. The AGCFF executive appealed the Basra organising committee to satisfy all the hosting requirements ahead of the tournament in June 2022.
The AGCFF opened the doors for hosting of the 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup and the period of submitting the applications will be from December 23 until January 2024.
Bahrain won the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup in Qatar in 2019 as they edged Saudi Arabia 1-0 to emerge champions for the first time in the history. Oman had emerged champions of the 23rd edition of Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait.
