A new study has named Muscat as the sixth best capital city to visit for vacation.
Travel experts at Bounce, a US-based luggage storage platform, analysed capital cities from around the globe, based on factors such as average cost of a hotel and transport, number of attractions and restaurants and average temperatures and rainfall, to reveal the best capital cities to visit.
They named Valetta, Abu Dhabi and New Delhi in the first three places followed by Manama, Riyadh and Muscat.
Muscat took the sixth spot with an overall score of 5.59 out of 10 with about 330 attractions and around 563 restaurants.
The average cost of a hotel came up to $210.66 (RO 81) and the average one-way ticket price for local public transport at $1.32 (over 500 baisas) and the number of attractions stood at 1.20 per square km.
Muscat received Instagram hashtags at 3,400,000 and the level of crime at 14.32 per 100.
Valetta, the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta, was the most popular capital city in the world with an overall score of 6.74 out of 10. Valletta being home to the highest number of attractions and restaurants out of all of the capital cities, and the city was ranked top of the list.
Abu Dhabi was in the second spot with a score 6.24 out of 10. Average temperatures in the city hit 27.92 degrees and the average rainfall just at 42mm per year, making this a great destination for sun seekers.
New Delhi was ranked in the third place with an average score of 6.06 out of 10, with
average temperatures topping 25 degrees and 12,409 restaurants to choose from.
The study further notes that Ankara, Turkey, is the best capital city for hotel prices, with an average price of $45.74 per night. While Luxembourg has free public transport and was crowned best capital city for transport in the world. Bangkok, is the best capital city for temperature with an average of 26.6 degrees. Cairo has the least rainfall with only 18mm of average rainfall per year and Valletta, Malta is both the best capital city for attractions at 311 km per sq and for restaurants at 442.6 km per sq.
The survey further notes that one of the most popular areas of a country to visit is the capital city, due to it being a hub for tourist activities, sightseeing, and amenities within a nation.
