Heritage, Tourism minister, Saudi investment minister explore areas of cooperation

Muscat: Salim Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Tuesday received Eng. Khalid Abdulaziz al Falih, Minister of Investment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).


The two sides explored areas of joint investment in projects that attract GCC tourists in general and citizens of the KSA in particular. They also stressed the importance of providing necessary facilitations and exchanging expertise in the heritage and tourism sectors, as well as stimulating and promoting intra-tourism after recovery from Covid-19.


The meeting underscored the importance of a timetable to implement and activate programs and enhance cooperation between the two countries.


The two sides also discussed the memorandum of understanding to be signed soon between the two countries' ministries of tourism, which will establish a framework and basis for cooperation between the two sides.


The MoU will cover many aspects related to exchanging experience, promoting tourism, exhibitions and joint tourism activities, as well as developing human resources in the fields of training and rehabilitation. The next phase will witness the start of holding joint workshops to agree on areas of implementation according to priorities.


The meeting was attended by Abdulsalam Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Ahmad Arab, Deputy Minister for Strategy and Business Intelligence at the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Hashel Obaid al Mahrouqi, CEO of Oman Tourism Development Company "OMRAN" and specialists from both sides. --ONA
