Muscat: Oman beach soccer team suffered a 4-2 loss against Uruguay in the second match for the team at the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021 on Sunday at the Luzhniki Beach Soccer Stadium. The second consecutive defeat dimmed the Sultanate’s chances to advance into the second round of the showpiece event. Red Beach boys commenced the campaign at the global championship with a 5-3 defeat against holders Portugal in the opening match.

Oman head coach Talib Hilal began Uruguay fixture with a line-up featuring Mundher al Oraimi, Abdullah al Souti, Nouh al Zadjali, Jalal al Sinani and Said al Farsi.

Cabrera put opponents Uruguay ahead as he netted the opening goal in first period. Uruguay’s Gaston added the margin as he scored the second goal in the second period.

Oman bounced back strongly in the following period as Nooh al Zadjali and Abdullah al Souti equalised the score 2-2.

Prior end of the third period, M Guerrero and L Quinta managed to score third and fourth goals respectively to earn three points for Uruguay.

The concluding fixture for the Sultanate beach soccer team in Group D is against Senegal on Tuesday. Oman’s chances to move into quarterfinals are difficult as the national players should register a victory in their encounter against African representatives Senegal tomorrow provided Portugal beat Senegal in a match late on Sunday.

On the other hand, Asian representatives Japan became the first team to advance into the quarterfinals after they edged USA 4-3 to enhance their lead at the top of Group A. Other Asian nation, the UAE commenced their campaign in the Beach Soccer World Cup with a significant victory against Tahiti and suffered a 4-2 defeat against Mozambique in the second match.
