The Oman national football team edged Qatar club FK Kolubara 1-0 in the second friendly match on Sunday as part of the team’s overseas preparatory camp in Serbia. The only goal in the match was netted by Mohsin al Ghassani in the 49th minute.


The 'Red Warriors' outclassed FK Kolubara 4-0 in the opening preparatory encounter. The goals were scored by Mohsin al Ghassani (2nd minute), Abdullah Fawaz (20), Essam al Subhi (67) and Mohammed al Ghafri (83). Both games were part of the Sultanate team’s preparation for the deciding round of 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, 2021 Fifa Arab World Cup and Arabian Gulf Cup.


The overseas camp in Serbia will end on August 23. According to the schedule, the Red Warriors will play two more friendly games.


In the match against the Qatar club, the Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic began the match with a starting list which featured Ahmed al Rawahi as the goalkeeper. Ali al Busaidi, Juma al Habsi, Khalid al Buraiki and Saud al Habsi were the defenders.


Mohsin Jawher was positioned in the midfield besides Omar al Fazari, Zahir al Aghbari and Harib al Saadi. Al Mundher al Alawi and Abdulaziz al Maqbali were the attackers. It was the first match for Al Mundher al Alawi after returning from the injury as he completed the recovery period successfully.


Coach Branko's men will commence their campaign in the final round of the joint qualification with a tough encounter against Japan on September 2 in Tokyo. The following match is scheduled in Muscat on September 7 against Saudi Arabia.


AFC TEAM VISITS MUSCAT


In Muscat, the Oman Football Association (OFA) discussed the latest preparation for hosting the match of the qualification at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


A delegation from the Asian Football Confederations (AFC) visited Muscat and had discussion with the officials of OFA. A panel comprised members from Ministry of Culture and Sports, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information, ROP, Oman Airports and Mwasalat Company to finlaise the arrangements of hosting the forthcoming matches in Muscat. The main task of the committee is to secure all the necessary technical and logistics arrangements.


The AFC has ensured to provide the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system for the match.
