Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources on Wednesday signed an investment agreement to set up fish storage center in Sharbathat in the Wilayat of Shalim and Al Hallaniyat Islands.

The agreement aims to enhance fish products' quality by providing services like sorting, cleaning and packing fresh fish received from fishermen.

The project includes a fish trading hall, cold stores and ice production factories, in addition to other investment projects such as shops, rest shacks for fishermen and transporters and boat maintenance workshops in a 9696-square-meter area.

The project has economic and social value as it provides opportunities for everyone to obtain fish products from (transporters, companies, merchants, retailers, fish shop owners and restaurants). This will ensure transparency in product prices, control the fish products quality, and enforce the regulations and legislation of fish marketing and fish products distribution to meet the local market needs. It also provides job opportunities and support services to the fisheries sector through other investment projects linked with the project.

The agreement was signed by Eng Yaqoub Khalfan al Busaidi, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Fisheries and Salem Said Al Bat’hari, CEO of Al Izz Resources Trading Company. --ONA
