Perhaps the fate of the small villages is to remain small to contain the legacy, the fabulous meaning of unity, the traditions and all the small things that matter. They are not meant to develop into greater cities so that they don’t lose their social position.

Musilmat village in Wadi al Maawil is one of these small, yet superior with its distinguished location, old history and attractive nature. For many eras, it remained a link between the villages within the willayat and the neighboring willayats. scholars, jurists, writers, poets settled there for years, either seeking knowledge or work.

the village is known for its pottery industry and it has three lines of defense. Al Khandaq house is one of the most famous heritage landmarks that was built by Sheikh Mohammed bin Salim bin Saif Al Rawahi in 1851. It used to have only one floor but the second floor and the rest of the house were completed in 1870 during the reign of sultan Faisal bin Turki. Sheik Abdulaziz bin Salim Al Rawahi renovated the house.

The ground floor also contains several rooms that were used as a storage. there were historical writings the confirm the visits of sheiks in that time. On the other hand, during the reign of sheikh Saif Abdulaziz Al Rawahi, the front of the house collapsed but Mohammad bin Masood Al Hilali rebuilt the house. The age of the house is estimated at three hundred years, and it is one of the oldest palaces or houses.

The house also contains of the famous Sablat al Roshan, where sheikhs and visitors gather in the past. The house reflects the skills of the Omani architecture. It is surrounded by houses and farms as it is also close to the souq.

Musilmat has recently witnessed several remarkable changes through urban expansion and economic activity. it received a large share of sustainable development services, such as education, health, electricity, water and paved roads.
