

MUSCAT: The Economic and Financial Committee of Majlis Ash’shura held its 12th regular meeting of the second annual convening under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Said al Sharqi, head of the committee, on Tuesday.
The committee discussed the draft securities law referred by the government. Besides, it discussed a proposal for amending some provisions of the tenders’ law.
During the meeting the committee discussed the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of income tax evasion between the Sultanate and Qatar.
Also discussed at the meeting was a proposal for boosting investments and competitiveness of the Sohar Freezone, a proposal for finding a modern mechanism for collecting land usufruct contracts and a proposal for reducing taxes on the innovation-supporting companies.
Meanwhile, the Services and Social Development Committee held a meeting on Tuesday during which it hosted Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Adnan bin Mustafa al Farsi, from the National Committee for Family Affairs.
During the meeting chaired by Dr Hamood bin Ahmed al Yahiaei, the committee viewed a visual display by the National Committee for Family Affairs regarding the social and economic changes which impact family cohesion. It highlighted the policies that enhance family cohesion and reduce divorce rates. It said that the government disbursed over RO 10 million to 11,010 divorced women.
