Fifty Omani students specialising in various subjects will have a rare opportunity to pursue higher studies in Hungary next year in English, thanks to the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship agreement signed between the Sultanate of Oman and Hungary. The first group of fifty students will travel to Hungary Q3 2022, the Hungarian diplomatic representatives have told the Observer.

The agreement to support Omani students to pursue masters and PhD was signed recently between the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MHERI) with the Government of Hungary in the field of higher education and scholarships.

Speaking to the Observer, Dr Tibor Szatmári, Ambassador of Hungary to the Sultanate, said that the Stipendium Hungaricum annual 50 scholarships from Hungary would further boost bilateral relations. These scholarships for fifty brilliant Omani youths for graduate and postgraduate students in various scientific disciplines signify our keenness in enhancing the bilateral ties.

Oman and Hungary share many commonalities and contrasts, making the country a place of choice for Omanis. “We are expecting more Omanis to explore our country, once travel is open just as we encourage Hungarians to visit Oman. We receive high appreciation from those who visit each other,” said the Ambassador.

These young Omani students on scholarship in Hungary will participate in local and international conferences and scientific workshops and support and facilitate study and learning of the Arabic and Hungarian languages.

The scholarship agreement also aims to promote cooperation in research and expertise exchange in various sciences, knowledge, and modern technology, which enjoy common interest from both sides. Expression of interest from Omani students was invited earlier this year and the applications are currently being scrutinised and followed up. Students will be selected from across the country and from various colleges and universities based on pure merit.
