

MUSCAT: The State Council’s Education and Research Committee continued its discussion on the policies and legislations of distance education in the Sultanate.
The panel seeks to identify the significance and effects of distance education and challenges facing it as well as finding appropriate regulations to apply distance education in line with the best international practises. It also aims to propose policies that can ensure its effectiveness and continuity.
During its 14th meeting of the second annual convening held on Tuesday, the committee hosted Professor Fuad Shadid, Vice-Chancellor of Al Sharqiyah University (ASU) and Abdul Hakim Mohamed, Director of E-Learning Center at Al Sharqiyah University (ASU).
The committee discussed several topics including the policies and legislations of e-learning at the university and reviewed regional and international experiences of distance education.
The committee debated the infrastructure readiness at the university to apply distance education as well as the most notable setbacks in the field and the proposed solutions. It also discussed scientific visions and proposals for improving distance education in the Sultanate.
