Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has issued a decision to stop issuing new permits and not renew the existing permits for the ‘electrical wiring’ license.

The license will be limited to Omanis as part of the efforts to implement the strategy to raise the Omanisation rate in the electricity sector.

APSR had earlier launched a programme to create over 800 jobs for citizen.

The jobs will be mainly in the offices of sub-contractors in the electricity sector who are allowed to operate with a permanent license.

These opportunities spread over various governorates will offer on-the-job training and employment opportunities to Omanis in various technology sectors.

The licenced companies will select the candidates in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and train them through specialised programmes that include both practical and theoretical sessions.

After successful completion of training, the candidates will be absorbed in the on-job training programme, subsequently leading to their enrolment into jobs.

APSR will seek to contribute to raising the Omanisation rates from 47 per cent to nearly 90 per cent, which is in line with its strategy for the electricity sector.

This initiative is part of the plan to implement Oman Vision 2040 by developing and empowering Omani youth to assume various jobs in the electricity sector.
