43% of Omani population under 18 years

The number of Omani children under 18 years is 1, 185, 059 according to the data of the electronic census 2020, which is 43 percent of the total Omani population.


The governorates of Muscat and North al Batinah accounted for 39 percent of the told child population, according to the National Center for statistics and Information (NCSI).


The data indicated that the total number of nurseries in the Sultanate in 2020 was 326 nurseries with 933 boys and girls, which is a drop of 89 percent compared to 2019 when the number of enrollment was 8,301 boys and girls.


The number of children enrolled in pre-school education (kindergarten stage) is ldren37,939 children, of which 71 percent are in private schools and 29 percent in public schools.


The data for the academic year 2020/2021 also indicated that the number of students enrolled in school education in public and private schools is 695,771 male and female students.


This number does not include kindergartens, international schools, and schools foreign communities.


The number of children with disabilities in the Sultanate reached 10,880 (one percent of total students), of which 58 percent are males.


The data showed that the largest number of disabilities among children was hearing impairment (2, 601), followed by 2,436 physical disabilities.


The results of the opinion poll on measuring access and use of information technology


It was revealed that that 14 percent of the children under 13 years old use at least one social media platform, with YouTube used by 76 percent of the total children in that category, followed by WhatsApp (28 percent), Instagram (14 percent), and Snapchat (8 percent).


According to the data, 11,062 children under the age of 18 own land or land plots, of which 55% are men.


The governorates of Muscat and North al Batinah accounted for the highest number of children who own land at 42 percent.
