Muscat: Dr Ahmed Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, has said that the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic takes special care to study all aspects of life impacted by the epidemic, including economic, social and health aspects.
The minister told Oman News Agency (ONA), Oman Radio and TV that the pandemic is still persisting, though numbers decreased before Eid al Fitr holidays. However, gatherings held afterwards caused a sharp increase in infection cases, said Dr Ahmed, who hoped that this surge will be a temporary one.
The minister called for total adherence to precautionary procedures, noting that the Supreme Committee stated in its decisions issued today that it might ban the activities again in case of non-abidance by precautionary procedures.
Dr Ahmed added that he looks forward to regular decline in infection cases now that a wide-scale immunization drive has commenced, with the main objective of attaining 60% to 70% protection of citizens and residents. --ONA
