Muscat: The tropical condition developing over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into tropical storm named 'Yas', locating far away from the Sultanate, Oman Meteorology office said on Monday.
It was Oman’s turn to name the storm. Met office said Yas is an aromatic shrub that grows in Arabian Peninsula and some parts of the Asia. The bushy medium-sized evergreen plant is scientifically known as 'Myrtus communis'. It is used for medical and traditional purposes.
Yas is the first of the Omani approved names within the list of recent names for tropical conditions in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
