Muscat: The General Union of Workers of the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday will organise a training workshop on social protection in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI).

The aim of the two-day workshop is to build the capacity of workers’ representatives in the field of social protection systems and actuarial studies, as well as to bring together viewpoints between workers’ representatives and PASI management on insurance coverage, which will ensure the development of social insurance systems on sound scientific basis.

The workshop will discuss a number of topics including the current conditions of social protection in the Sultanate, the principles underlying the international labour standards and best global practices, in addition to the role of trade unions in the development of social protection, actuarial studies and their importance, and methods of analysis.

The workshop will also review the results of the seventh actuarial studies and the funding policy of PASI to clarify the picture of workers’ representatives on the status of the insurance fund to ensure its sustainability to meet its future obligations for future generations. The workshop, which will be conducted by ILO experts, will have representatives of workers and employees of the General Union of Workers of the Sultanate of Oman and the Public Authority for Social Insurance. — ONA
