MUSCAT, Jan 30 - Every wilayat in the Sultanate gets an evening to showcase its customs, music and dance forms, and culinary delights at the Muscat Festival venues.
The latest show by Wilayat of Liwa was an evening packed with cultural shows and a display of authentic arts and artefacts.
“The show was amazing,” said Maggie Florence, a university staff from Milan, Italy, on the show at Amerat Park.
“It was awe-inspiring to see traditional dancers holding swords and dancing to the rhythms of music and drum-beats,” she said.
Liwa showcased crafts, games and food, besides an “exhibition of marine environment, urban environment and mountain environment”.
It displayed artefacts from the marine sector, farming industry, fishing nets, as well as cutleries used in those days.
Women from Liwa showcased their skills in making decorative pieces of butterflies, henna, stitching, weaving, sewing, spinning and embroidery.
They presented models of some traditional costumes.
Visitors learnt about the methods of teaching Holy Quran to children under the shade of trees, where students graduated and a ceremony was conducted to declare their graduation.
Residents showcased their way of life in summer when parents moved from their homes in the city to the greener farms, the plush harvest season and the harvesting of summer crops.
Their nomadic lifestyle grabbed the attention of visitors. The way they earned their daily bread by rearing camels or cattle and their daily routine of collecting water were all recreated.
