UTSC Gulf Hockey Fiesta on Feb 23 and 24

Muscat: The United Thalassery Sports Club will organise the third edition of the GULF HOCKEY FIESTA – 2018.


The tournament is scheduled to be conducted on 23rd & 24th February at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium, Bausher, Muscat, in association with Oman Hockey Association.


A total of 13 invited teams are participating in this prestigious third edition of the tournament including defending champions Team Coorg Muscat and host UTSC.


Other teams are Saudi strikers, Young stars — Bahrain, Nizwa sports club, Al Salam sports club-Liwa, Muscat Orangeers, Pak Falcons, Oman Veterans, OHA Red, OHA White, Qatar Wanderers and Hungry Hamours, Bahrain.


The 13 teams are fixed in three groups and two teams from each group and other best two teams will move to the quarterfinals, said Javis Ahamed, the tournament director.


As a part of promoting hockey in grassroot level, the organisers decided to conduct the exhibition match for Indian schools boys & girls with Gulf Hockey Fiesta.


The event will kick off at 2 pm on 23rd and official inauguration will be held at 7.00 pm by the chairman of Oman Hockey Association, Captain Talib al Wahaibi.


All the league matches will be held on 23rd and knock out matches on 24th. Final of the tournament will be on 24th at 7.30 pm.


Gulf Hockey Fiesta is an approved event of Asian Hockey Federation and the tournament will be officiated by international umpires from Oman. There will be live commentary by Mr. Salih Thacher, a noted commentator in Oman. Sirajuddin, prominent sports personality and secretary of UTSC Thalassery wing will be the special guest for the tournament.


Apart from this there will be a felicitation of another eminent sportsman and a very selfless social worker from Thalassery Mr. Moidu.


United Thalasserry Sports Club (UTSC) with its origin from Tellicherry, known as sports city of Kerala. One of UTSC’s key focus areas is to contribute to the sustainable growth of a number of different sports in Oman, UAE Saudi Arabia and India.


This year’s matches will be more colourful and tough as there are many international players from India, Pakistan and Oman participating for various teams.


The most well-known pair of brothers to have represented for Young Star Hockey Club, Bahrain in UTSC Gulf Hockey Fiesta 2018. Yuvraj Walmiki & Anup Walmiki are now eyeing donning the Young Star jersey in the UTSC Gulf Cup 2018.


The sponsors’ role in the event is truly commendable. It gives us a lot of encouragement, optimism and confidence to go ahead with our venture. No matter how hard an effort we put in, we should have very well supporting sponsors to carry forward all our efforts. And that is where success begins. Apart from hockey, We will have “THE GREAT 2018 FOODLANDS COOK-OFF CONTEST” in association with United Thalassery Sports Club, Gulf Madhyamam and Shahi Spices, on Friday 23rd February 2018 at the same venue.


The event will have lot of other entertainment like live DJ, & Music, Fun questions, Children Games, Spot Quiz and other entertainment. Thalaserry foods are famous across the globe, so we decided to arrange “Thalaserry food counter” on both day to enjoy variety of Thalaserry foods.


There will be colourful closing ceremony along with Raffle draws to win many gifts. We are expecting a large family crowd at the venue. The entry is free. Delicious dinner is also arranged to the teams and the spectators said organisers.
