Automation in the Sultanate is in a highly proliferative mode and the future is brighter thanks to the technical advancement and IoT (Internet of Things) that have already made inroads in Oman.

“The future of automation and IoT is brighter and the newer jobs associated with automation is enormous. It is expected to create a vast number of opportunities for Omani youth in future”, said Cor Corbeek, Vice President, and General Manager, Oman, UAE, Yemen and Lebanon, Emerson Automation Solutions.

“Innovation has a brighter future. Nowadays, IoT is talked about everywhere. Here the question is how to implement Industrial Internet of things in business so that the customers can benefit out of it”, he added.

Speaking to the Observer in the sidelines of a seminar held under the auspices of Salim al Aufi, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Oil and Gas, Corbeek said that Oman is not lagging behind anyone in the region. On the other hand, this country has made tremendous progress in IoT and automation.

“Oman is not lagging behind. Oman is a country far advanced in automation especially if you look at how Oman has implemented Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) using steam.”

However, there are some challenges facing the development of automation and the country needs to address them to stay afloat in the highly competitive market.

“With the fast developing technologies, the world has become small and staying afloat is the need of the hour”, Corbeek added.
